Vinyl Gutters
Vinyl (PVC) gutters are the most affordable option and popular for DIY installation. They're lightweight, won't rust, and come in several colors. However, vinyl becomes brittle over time—especially in intense sun—and doesn't handle heavy water loads as well as metal gutters. Most professionals consider vinyl a temporary solution.
Advantages
- Lowest initial cost
- Easy DIY installation
- Won't rust or corrode
- Lightweight
- Good for temporary applications
Considerations
- Becomes brittle in sun exposure
- Can crack in cold weather
- Sags under heavy loads
- Limited color options
- Fades over time
- Not recommended for professional installation
Houston Recommendation
We don't recommend or install vinyl gutters. Houston's intense sun degrades vinyl quickly, and our heavy rainfall exceeds vinyl gutters' capacity. The short lifespan means frequent replacement that costs more long-term than quality aluminum.
Maintenance
Frequent inspection required. Watch for cracks, sagging, and fading. Plan for replacement every 10-15 years.
